Description
The iris flower takes its name from the Greek goddess who rode rainbows, reflecting the flower’s many colors. There are about 300 species in the genus Iris. Most familiar are the tall bearded irises, Iris germanica.
The irises in this photo are from Schreiner’s Iris Gardens in Keizer, Oregon. Keizer, the self-proclaimed “Iris Capital of the World” has an Iris Festival and Parade each spring which attracts 30,000 visitors. Shreiner’s is said to be the nation’s largest retail grower of irises, with more than 75 years of growing and breeding the stately, showy plant. They have a lovely garden full of irises and other beautiful flowers which is a flower lover's and photographer's paradise.
