Description
Located in the northwestern United States, The Palouse includes parts of Washington as well as Idaho and Oregon. The areas picturesque, rolling silt dunes were formed during the ice ages. The vast Palouse Prairie once grew grasses and abundant wildlife but today nearly all of the land is devoted to agricultural crops. The area has become the most important lentil growing region in the US.
The gently rolling hills of wheat, lentils, barley, peas and canola mean spectacular panoramic views, especially from higher elevations. This photo was taken atop Steptoe Butte, a 3,612 tall quartzite butte that looms above the flat farmlands. From the top, the eye can see for 200 miles.
This image won a Photo of the Day recognition from Better Photo, an international photography club and school.

Thanks so much, Nikki. Yes, the Rolling Hills was a tough competition and I was pleased with how I ended up. We're lucky to be able to travel fairly easily to diverse and lovely landscapes.

Beautiful country and capture of it - so very rich and I just love the shapes and lines. Congratulations on a very nice finish in the Rolling Hills contest - that was tough competition. What gorgeous landscapes there are in our world.
