Description
This is the iconic Dolles sign that stood over the boardwalk at Rehoboth Beach from1962 to 2022. I grew up not far from Rehoboth Beach and visited it whenever I could, especially in the winter when the crowds were gone. The sign marked the source of their wonderful caramel corn as well as being the center of the boardwalk.
Dolle's Candyland was established in 1926. Both Dolles and Rehoboth have seen amazing growth since that time. Rehoboth is now considered by many to be the Nation's Summer Capital as residents from Washington D.C., eager to escape that city's humidity and heat head for the the beach.
Sadly, this scene no longer exists. In 2021 the lease for Dolles was up and the owner raised the rent enough that Dolles moved to a site off the boardwalk. The sign was taken down and now is at the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society and Museum where it can be seen on the canal as visitors enter the city.
